Supplement Your Nutrition and Increase Your Chromium in Food

Some studies have noted that chromium has a benefit on lowering heart attack risk, and may help boost HDL levels. The Institute of Medicine (IOM) has stated that an Adequate Intake (AI) for chromium is 25-35mcg per day, which was concluded by estimating the average amount of chromium a healthy American obtains from the foods they ingest. The AI for chromium is substantially lower than the Reference Daily Intake (RDI) of 120mcg.

The Harvard Health Publications states that the best ways to boost HDL levels are lifestyle habits of exercise and diet. But if those don't help, supplementing with chromium may improve HDL levels. Some clinical trials have reported a benefit.

Dietary chromium is found in whole grains, nuts, broccoli, and green beans, which are all high nutrition foods. Most people do not eat whole grains, ever, do not choose nuts as a snack, and can't stand green vegetables. Green vegetables that are overcooked are particularly repulsive to many.

Chromium has also been associated with the management of blood sugar. It has shown to assist the receptor sites in cells utilize insulin. Insulin resistance is the condition where you cells do not assimilate insulin, and can lead to Diabetes.

A whole food supplement containing unprocessed, unfragmented green vegetable compounds will increase your chromium intake in a natural way. It will be ingested with the nature-born co-factors and enzymes needed for proper digestion.

So yes, you can just take a pill and know that you are doing something good for health and future every day. Of course if you have disease symptoms you should see a health practitioner and get a proper diagnosis followed up with specific treatments. Most medical doctors would not object to your taking a whole food supplement along with other treatment, just ask if there is any reason not to.

Start with your diet and do the best you can to eat good fresh foods. Add to your natural health plan with a whole food supplement to feed your immune system well.

Since studies have shown that chromium in food brings benefits to your health that extracted, isolated chromium in supplements does not show, to date, opt for a supplement that also includes anti-oxidants, other whole food derived vitamins and minerals, and berry extracts.

Popular fish oil supplements fail ingredient tests

More than half the brands of popular cod liver oil and omega 3 supplements do not contain the amount of active ingredients they claim on the label, according to the results of new tests.

Fish oil capsules are one of the UK's most popular nutritional supplements and have been shown by a number of studies to help maintain joint flexibility, keep the heart healthy and aid brain development.

But scientists from the new review website whatsinit.com tested 27 brands of the widely sold supplements - and found that more than half did not meet trading standards guidelines.

The organisation, which claims to be the only independent website providing unbiased analysis of UK health supplements, says that one of the worst offenders was Tesco's High Strength Cod Liver Oil, which had just 79 per cent of active ingredient, EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid), claimed on the bottle.

Meanwhile, the report found Boots Brain and Heart Health Omega 3 supplements contained only 84 per cent DHA and 87per cent EPA stated on the label. Seven Seas Pure Cod Liver Oil had 87per cent of active ingredient it was said to contain.

At the other end of the scale, Numark's Omega 3, Healthspan's Concentrated Omega 3 and Asda's Omega 3 contained higher levels of the active ingredient than claimed.

Whatsinit.com say the test results were analysed by independent laboratories and reviewed by experts. Products were considered to have failed if they contained less than 95 per cent of the active ingredients they claimed to have.

Technical Director Dr Heidi Normanton, said: 'It is well known within the industry that there is no strict regulation. We are not aiming to damage any reputations through this site but are here to provide an essential service for consumers who have no idea what their expensive supplements contain.

'We are providing manufacturers with every chance to improve their products and the consistency of the supplements and ensure that the next time they are tested they meet the label claim.'

However, the test methods and results were disputed by Boots and Tesco, whose products were failed by the website.

'We believe their results to be fundamentally flawed as Boots supplements undergo rigorous internal and external product testing,' a Boots spokesman said.

'We would like to take this opportunity to reassure our customers that our products are manufactured to the highest standards in the industry and we have all relevant documentation to demonstrate this.'

A spokesman for Tesco said: 'We are investigating these claims, however we obtain a certificate of analysis from our supplier for each batch of capsules to verify the content.'

Thousands of cancer patients who pay privately for drugs WILL get free NHS care, say ministers

The ban on patients paying extra for 'top-up' drugs on the NHS will be lifted, health secretary Alan Johnson has announced.

He told MPs this afternoon that patients who pay privately for life-extending drugs will no longer lose their right to free NHS care.

It is thought up to 15,000 patients a year might choose to pay for drugs the NHS will not fund because they are too expensive or are awaiting approval.

Mr Johnson said reforms by the rationing watchdog NICE, the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence, would make more drugs available without patients having to foot the bill.

A new system will change the way NICE calculates whether a drug is cost effective, giving greater weight to the value of a few extra months for a terminally-ill patient, and will speed up the process.

It is hoped the system will increase the availability on the NHS of expensive drugs for rarer cancers, which cost more for pharmaceutical firms to develop because their potential market is smaller.

The Department of Health will also enter into 'risk sharing' deals with drugs firms, under which new drugs are initially sold more cheaply to get under the cost effectiveness threshold. If they prove more worthwhile in practice than was expected, their price can be raised.

It costs an average of £21,000 a year to buy cancer drugs privately, and the reforms have raised fears of a 'two-tier' NHS because they will mean a rich patient will be able to afford treatment denied to someone less well-off.

There are also concerns that the change could make primary care trusts reluctant to fund expensive drugs under the 'exceptional cases' system, relying on patients to buy the drugs themselves.

Mr Johnson said those paying for top-ups should receive 'separate' care, with the drugs being administered outside NHS grounds or in a private wing of a hospital.

Vitamin D Activated And Immune Response Increased By Lung Airway Cells

Vitamin D is essential to good health but needs to be activated to function properly in the human body. Until recently, this activation was thought to happen primarily in the kidneys, but a new University of Iowa study finds that the activation step can also occur in lung airway cells.

The study also links the vitamin D locally produced in the lung airway cells to activation of two genes that help fight infection. The study results appear in the Nov. 15 issue of the Journal of Immunology, now online.

In addition to contributing to calcium absorption and bone health, vitamin D is increasingly recognized for its beneficial effects on the immune system. Vitamin D deficiency has been recently linked to increased risk of some infections, autoimmune diseases such as multiple sclerosis and type 1 diabetes, and some cancers.

"The more scientists have been studying vitamin D, the more we learn about new roles it plays in the human body," said the study's lead author Sif Hansdottir, M.D., fellow in internal medicine in the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine. "The active form of vitamin D is known to affect the expression of more than 200 genes, so we were interested both in the possible lung-specific production of active vitamin D and in vitamin D-dependent production of proteins that fight infections."

The first step in vitamin D activation takes place in the liver, where an enzyme called 25-hydroxylase converts vitamin D into a "storage" form. The next step takes place typically in the kidneys, but in recent years, tissue and organs such as skin, intestines, breast and prostate have been found also to express the enzyme that completes vitamin D conversion.

The University of Iowa team, based in the laboratory of Gary Hunninghake, M.D., professor of internal medicine and the study's senior author, used cells from deceased human donors to demonstrate that the presence of the enzyme 1 alpha-hydroxylase in the airway cells helps convert the storage form of vitamin D into its active form.

"When we put the storage form of vitamin D on the lung airway cells, we saw them convert it to the active form," Hansdottir said. "The next step was to investigate whether this active form could affect the expression of genes."

The team then showed that vitamin D activated by airway cells affects two genes involved in immune defense. One gene expresses a protein called cathelicidin that can kill bacteria. The second gene, called CD14, produces a protein that helps cells recognize different kinds of pathogens that could be a threat.

"Vitamin D converted by the kidneys circulates in the bloodstream, but vitamin D converted by other organs appears to stay within those organs and protect them from infection," Hansdottir said. "We were able to see this happen in cells lining the trachea and main bronchi."

The team also found that when lung airway cells are infected by a virus, they express more of the enzyme that activates vitamin D. Hansdottir said the team is very interested in pursuing studies on the role of viral infections in vitamin D production and subsequent effects on lung infections.

"Vitamin D not only increases proteins involved in bacterial killing but also can dampen inflammation," Hansdottir said. "Controlling inflammation through vitamin D is good because too much inflammation can cause problems such as sepsis and seems to contribute to autoimmune disease."

Hansdottir noted that vitamin D insufficiencies and deficiencies (which are more severe) are fairly common, particularly for people living in northern latitudes. While vitamin D can be generated through sun exposure, such exposure is generally not recommended as a remedy because of skin cancer risks. Instead, supplements can be used.

The American Academy of Pediatrics recently recommended that the vitamin D dosage for children be increased to 400 IU (international units) per day. Optimal daily intake for adults is still being studied but may be as high as 800 to 1,000 IU.

The Zone Diet

The Zone diet is a high-protein, higher-fat, lower-carbohydrate eating plan. It is not as restrictive as other high-protein diets. It allows for a broad range of foods to be consumed. A small amount of protein is combined with twice the amount of "favorable" carbohydrates, including fruits and vegetables. If choosing "less desirable" carbohydrates, the portion size is smaller. Sears' Zone Diet is based on the theory that the human body is genetically programmed to reach peak efficiency when all meals, including snacks, consist of a set caloric ratio of carbohydrates, proteins and fats. The diet recommends 40% of calories from carbohydrates, 30% from protein, and 30% from fats (40-30-30). When this ratio is achieved, the body is working within the "zone." The body will have maximum energy and weight loss.

Disadvantages:

The medical and nutrition community have mixed feelings about the Zone Diet. There are no long-term randomized scientific studies to support the theory the human body is genetically designed to reach maximum efficiency with a 40-30-30 caloric ratio. The zone diet ultimately is a low-calorie diet. It is difficult to consume essential daily vitamins and minerals naturally from foods on low-calorie diets. Following the Zone Diet over the long term may be difficult.

Advantages:

Weight loss may occur with this diet. It encourages eating balanced meals that include high-fiber fruits, vegetables and beans and grains. The eating plan is easy to follow.

Summary:

While there are many more diets available, these are the ones that seem to generate the most interest and the most questions. We will not even begin to address fad diets such as the " cabbage soup diet" or the " Hollywood diet" etc. There is simply no role for the use of get-skinny-quick fads. They are nutritionally devoid, and frankly dangerous. The bottom line is just like you learned in physics way back in high school:

IN=OUT

If you take less in and put more out, you will lose weight. The key is to do it in a safe and effective manner which provides you motivation to maintain with lifestyle change, encourages adequate and appropriate nutritional intake and keeps your calories from going too low. If weight loss seems impossible and a true effort has been made to reduce caloric intake and expend more energy with exercise, there may be an underlying medical problem that needs addressing (insulin resistance, dysmetabolic syndrome, hypothyroidism, and others). Just remember to consult with a physician before starting on any weight loss plan, and consider the support of a dietician for education and long term behavioral change.

A balanced diet coupled with regular exercise is still the best way to lose weight and reduce fat. Fat Loss 4 Idiots Diet is an excellent plan with lots of practical advice about dieting, exercise, diet-motivation and long term weight control.

The Carbohydrate's Addict's Diet

The Carbohydrates Addict's diet is a low-carbohydrate eating plan. The diet recommends eating low-carbohydrate meals and one "reward meal" daily. The reward meal combines carbohydrates, protein and vegetables. It must be eaten within an hour from start to finish. The Hellers' diet is based on the theory that many overweight people are carbohydrate addicts; they suffer from a biological condition caused by a hormonal imbalance. Excess insulin is produced after eating carbohydrates, resulting in all-day food cravings and a willingness in the body to store fat. The plan holds that converting to this low-carbohydrate plan reverses such biological conditions, reducing appetite and body fat storage. The body will convert to burning fat for energy versus burning glucose from carbohydrate digestion. In general, although the finer points may differ, this can be viewed as a modified Atkins plan.

Disadvantages:

There are no long-term randomized studies to support the theory of carbohydrate addiction. Enjoying carbohydrate foods is not enough for an addiction diagnosis. Also, there are no long-term randomized studies to support the safety of this diet. Eating a low-carbohydrate diet leads to consuming larger amounts of fat and protein. Although debated by the medical community, long-term low-carbohydrate diets are believed to increase risk for colon cancer and osteoporosis. High-fat and high-protein diets could cause kidney function loss, elevate cholesterol levels and increase risk of heart disease. Following this diet long term will be a challenge for many.

Advantages:

Weight loss may occur with this diet. It provides a comprehensive list of foods to consume. It encourages drinking plenty of water daily. It is less restrictive than the Atkins' diet.

Secrets on How to Make the Healthiest Pasta on the Planet

If you want to make a thoroughly healthy, tasty and simple pasta for all the family, then try this one below. Always a success with every age!

1. Buy certified organic spelt pasta.

Freshly made is best, but alternatively, nothing beats the flavors of certified organic pasta.

2. Slowly simmer 3 cups in filtered water with a pinch of Celtic sea salt.

I usually simmer for about 10 minutes, have a taste, then continue.

3. When soft enough, strain it in cold, filtered water.

This separates the strands of pasta without any tearing.

4. Separately, mix handfuls of organic fresh basil, 1 thinly sliced organic carrot, 1 sliced organic red capsicum, 2 cloves of organic chopped garlic, 1/2 cup of organic cherry tomatoes, 1/4 cup of
organic black olives and 1/2 cup of chopped organic or biodynamic fetta or cheddar cheese.

5. Add approximately 2 tablespoons of cold-pressed, organic olive oil. Or, you may use old-pressed hemp oil or flaxseed oil.

6. Mix well.

7. Add the strained pasta.

8. Sprinkle with Celtic sea salt (to your taste).

9. Mix well.

10. Taste.

11. Serve and enjoy.

Weight Loss - What Helps Better - Dieting Or Colon Cleansing?

In the western countries, more than 50% of people are overweight. Many try to lose weight by staying on the diet. However, diet market is more confusing now than ever before. There are many ways to lose weight. You can lose weight counting the calories. However, there are experts who think that getting not enough calories contributes to the weight gain. Calories are the energy for the cells. If your body does not receive enough of them you feel tired and hungry all the time. Another way to lose weight is to dramatically reduce the amount of fat in your food. But you should never overdo it. You also might chose to go with low carb diet. Actually, it is hard to decide which diet is the best as we all are different. We have different genetics, glycemic index, insulin secretion, hormonal balance, etc. But, there is one thing that is common. Most of the overweight people have slow metabolism.

Slow metabolism is when food doesn't get broken down and absorbed properly. It just turns into fat. When the metabolism is slow, digestive organs do not function correctly. This happens, when digestive system has accumulated waste and toxins from food in the small pockets of the colon. These toxins and waste disturb digestion of nutrients and elimination of the waste. When this problem occurs other organs in the body get affected. For example, most overweight people's pancreas produces insufficient number of digestive enzymes. This is why food can not be converted into energy and instead it turns into fat.

There are 5 things that can help make your metabolism work faster:

First is the exercising with the weights. Muscles burn fat even when you are relaxing on the couch.

Second is drinking plenty of water. Tea, coffee and juices are not counted as they need to be broken down and then digested.

Third is to add fiber to your daily food. You can try to get enough fiber from the food, but there is also possibility to supplement. One of the best fiber supplements is flax, as it is 50% insoluble fiber and 50% soluble. Insoluble fiber brushes the colon and soluble fiber soaks up the toxins.

Fourth thing is proper food combining. What does it mean? It means that you should forget about the fruit salads. It is better for the digestion to eat just one fruit at a time. Sour fruits are especially beneficial when eaten 30 minutes prior breakfast or lunch. Another rule is not to combine dense proteins (nuts, avocado, meat, fish, and dairy products) with dense starches (potatoes, beans, grains, peas, artichokes, corn). It is recommended to eat one or another with the vegetables.

Fifth is the colon cleansing. Colon cleansing can jump start your metabolism in 30 days. It will remove food residue, toxic build up, parasites, and harmful bacteria. Without colon cleansing, weight loss can be difficult. Colon cleanse kits are easy to use. Good kit should include powerful herbs to provide cleansing and support liver, kidneys, lymph and blood. Naturopaths and herbalists recommend to continue colon cleanse for about 90 days. After that, the body will be cleaner and metabolism faster. This is why cleansing, when comparing to dieting, helps not only to lose weight, but also keep the result for a long time.

To learn more about the colon cleanse and other types of cleansing, visit the website of Mary Waltraut MyCleansingProgram.com. I also recommend that you get my Step-by-Step Body Cleansing Program. In the program, you will see which cleansing products I have used to improve my metabolism and cleanse my body of toxins and waste. By using my personal cleansing program you will be able to put together your own cleansing routine.

Some Health Risks For Being Overweight

Being overweight may cause a variety of illnesses. Some of the health risks for being overweight are life threatening, while other illnesses can be reversed after losing weight.

Cancer

If you are overweight you are at a high risk of getting many different types of cancer. Actually just gaining weight, regardless if you put on a lot of extra pounds, increases your cancer risk. You should aim to get to your ideal weight and maintain the weight as you age by eating healthy foods, using portion control and getting some form of exercise every day. Thirty minutes of exercise is good, more is better. Some types of cancer that you could be at risk for, if you are overweight are, liver, colon, kidney, esophageal, uterine and postmenopausal breast cancer.

Sleep Apnea

When a person is overweight they have more fat around the neck which in turn makes the airway smaller. Smaller airways make breathing more difficult. Overweight people tend to snore and sleep apnea is when they stop breathing. Stored fat in the body causes inflammation and if you have inflammation in the neck, you are at a higher risk for having sleep apnea. This is one of the many health risks for being overweight. Sleep apnea is life threatening so you either need to lose weight or see your physician to discuss a breathing machine to use when you sleep.

Type 2 Diabetes

Being overweight can cause a disease called type 2 diabetes which causes the blood sugar level to be above the normal range. This is a major cause for heart disease. It can also cause a stroke, kidney disease, becoming blind and amputation. With type 2 diabetes your cells that produce insulin have to work harder to keep your blood sugar at a normal level and that may cause your cells to eventually fail.

Gallbladder Disease

More health risks for being overweight would include gallbladder disease which is inflammation and possibly an infection of the gallbladder, with gallstones. Gallstones are made of cholesterol and if you are overweight most likely you will have an enlarged gallbladder that doesn't work as it should.

Some Health Risks For Being Overweight can be prevented by losing weight and having a healthy lifestyle. For resources to help you lose the weight, please visit Diet Plans and learn how you can lose weight without having to starve yourself or exercise to exhaustion.

Running and Jogging - Is Running and Jogging the Best Way to Exercise?

When you use a scale, this does not indicate if you are in shape or overweight. It is much more important the composition of your body tissue than the total of pounds that you weight. Excessive fat can bring serious complications to your health, from diabetes to high blood pressure.

The problem of overweight people is that they are obsessed by reducing the number of pounds that the scale shows and make every effort to lose weight until they see that the scale shows a smaller number.

People should know that being overweight is simply an imbalance between the number of calories they eat and the number of calories burned through physical activity. That is, if you ingest 1500 calories a day and using a little physical activity get burned 1200 calories, you have an excess of 300 calories for the day, and so if you continue with this pattern, obviously with the passage of days you'll have a big surplus calories that will be reflected in your weight and your figure.

As you can see, the secret is in moderate physical activity which allows you to burn excess of calories that can affect your health. However, when we talk about physical activity or exercise, many people think a lot of hard work and exhaustion. Well, you should consider that if you are the kind of people who think that the more exercise you do, the more fat you'll lose, then you will possibly failed. This is because it has been found that people who believe in losing much weight in a couple of days or weeks, quickly become bored and no longer exercised.

The weight loss is something that should be achieved in a slow, steady and well-planned way. Getting the ideal weight must be a medium or long term target. If you get obsessed in losing 20 pounds in 5 days, you strive too much and possibly regain those extra pounds over the next 5 days.

One of the recommendations that most people receive from their doctors is running and / or jogging. They say that this kind of exercise is the most comprehensive exercise that makes all the muscles in your body work nicely, which helps burn the most calories you can.

Another excellent benefit of running and jogging is that these activities exercise your heart, your lungs and your blood veins. This makes the running and jogging the most complete exercises and the most recommended to burn excess calories accumulated during the day.

Running is without doubt, one of the best, if not the best ways of exercising. However, you need to know the basic recommendations if you are planning on pursuing this discipline. A good guide to running is vital in this case.

How to Get Rid of Chronic Acne

Mainly during puberty, glands in the face have an unusual chemical reaction which causes lots of sebum which simply catches dirt and oil and dead skin cells causing acne. Because the oils can't get out of the skin then they all gather up together and create a white head (the spots that stick out of the skin). With this in mind a blackhead has the same sort of theory however its the gathering of dead skin cells.

Its really hard to tell what causes acne and weather it is eating fatty foods or not.

However there is a third common spot and this spot is like a whitehead however its produced deep under the skin unfortunately you can't squeeze them and they appear on your face as a great big lump. If you knock this spot then it really does hurt and can cause eruptions under your skin which then spread and can pop out in different parts of your face. The same can happen if you squeeze white heads that is why its important to seek treatment quickly otherwise it will just spread. I would recommend not to squeeze spots and get treatment. However they will annoy you and look awful so i would not blame you if you did squeeze your spots.

These products that we buy in supermarkets only clean the skin and are not actually aimed at acne that's why I have found a product that will actually help you.

However one thing that we all agree on is that its a real pain and everybody deserves clear skin!!

Body Fat, Belly Fat, Weight and Health

Body Fat, Belly Fat, Weight and Health

If you want to lose weight and maintain good health, it's beneficial to understand why body fat is an important factor for weight loss and health. See also Weight Loss Facts

Body Weight and Body Fat

Body weight may be divided into three types: bones, muscle and fat. In a healthy female of average weight, bones make up 12 percent of total body weight, muscle/lean tissue about 35 percent and body fat about 27 percent. The remaining body weight is skin, connective tissue, tendons, blood, organs and so forth.

Body Fat is Lighter Than Muscle by Volume

Fat is lighter by volume than lean body tissue. For example, a 'cup' of fat is lighter than a 'cup' of muscle. This explains why increased physical exercise (which builds muscle) may actually cause weight gain rather than weight loss - at least to begin with.
Body Fat Requires Fewer Calories Than Muscle

Fat is metabolically less active than muscle. Meaning, it needs less calories to sustain it, than muscle. This is why body fat percentage is so important for weight control. The higher your percentage of fat (and the smaller your percentage of muscle) the less calories you need to maintain your weight and therefore the easier it is to gain weight.
Body Fat Percentage

Body fat is often expressed as our "Body Fat Percentage" or "Body Fat Percent." Body fat percentage is the amount of body-fat-tissue as a percentage of total body weight. If your total body weight is 160 pounds and you have 32 pounds of fat, your body fat percentage is 20 percent.

Body Fat Calculation and Health

The higher your percentage of fat above average levels, the higher your health risk for weight-related illness, like heart disease, high blood pressure, gallstones, type 2 diabetes, osteoarthritis, and certain cancers.
Body Fat Location, Abdominal Fat and Body Fat Percentage

As we can see, the total amount of body fat we have is an important factor in weight control. But where our fat is stored is also important - especially for health. In simple terms, the more fat we have around our middle (abdominal fat, or visceral fat) the worse for our health. Excess abdominal fat has a strong link to "syndrome X," the deadly quartet of high insulin, high sugar, high cholesterol, and high blood pressure. Even in people who don't have all these problems, excess abdominal fat is associated with high levels of LDL ("bad") cholesterol and low levels of HDL ("good") cholesterol. All in all, abdominal fat is strongly linked to an increased risk of heart disease and stroke and is far more hazardous to health than lower-body fat.
Who Develops Excess Abdominal Fat?

Generally, men tend to store fat around their middle (apple body shape), while women store fat around their pelvis, thighs and butt (pear body shape). But while gender is the most powerful influence on the distribution of body fat, it's not the only factor - genes and genetics also count. A 1996 study of twins found that hereditary factors are responsible for up to 70 percent of an individual's tendency to accumulate extra weight in the midsection. Age, too, has an effect. Aging is actually responsible for the middle-age spread so common in America. But the effect of age is magnified enormously by the final factor, lack of exercise. A recent study of 427 healthy men between 17 and 90 found that in each decade of adult life, the body fat of sedentary men increased 17 percent and the waist circumference 2 percent; regular exercise, though, reduced fat accumulation to just 3 percent per decade and held the mid-body bulge to just 1 percent per decade.

For a concise explanation of how ALL surplus calories (from fats, protein AND carbs) are converted to body fat and stored as adipose tissue.

Waist Circumference - Indicator of Body Fat Location

A high waist circumference is associated with an increased risk for type 2 diabetes, dyslipidemia, hypertension, and cardiovascular disease CVD in patients with a body mass index (BMI) between 25-34.9. Furthermore, in obese patients with metabolic complications, changes in waist circumference are useful predictors of changes in CVD risk factors.

Unhealthy Waist Circumference

If you are overweight (BMI 25+), then as a very general rule, an unhealthy waist circumference is above 35 inches (women), or above 40 inches (men).
